THE COVENANT SYNOPSIS

The events take place today. The play is set in Wales.  This is a contemporary realistic drama - a story of passion and betrayal based on the relationship between a woman - Menna - and her dead mother, Martha. Menna's day job is that of a prostitute. And phone sex worker.

The events take place on the day of Martha's funeral, to which Menna is not invited by Martha's jealous husband - who is not the father of Menna - and who has shown only a possessive love towards Martha since they met.

Menna is illegitimate. Martha had originally come to Wales from the USA, to work at the US Submarine base in Brawdy, Nr Haverfordwest in West Wales. There she had got pregnant and put the baby up for adoption. Thirty years later Menna comes to Wales to find her birth mother and they establish a relationship which is ended by the jealousy of Martha's husband.

But Menna is stubborn and she takes an apartment overlooking the home of Martha and by mobile phone they communicate with each other staring at each other through opposing windows. It is through this window that Menna watches her mother's funeral. And tells her story - a story full of hope and optimism, humour and  realism. And love.
