A largely autobiographical account of one man's descent into alcoholism, this terrifying, at times sickening, film much deserved the Grand Prix it won. (The Irish Times)
Dafydd Hywel, as Alun, gives one of the most moving and powerful performances seen in a long while. Only the central characters are actors. The rest are recruited from the mining community. They gave added realism to a stark story of despair and degradation. But of hope and even happiness, too. (The Mirror)
